Bushes growing in an oceanic climate experience less contrasting seasons than inland areas: winters are mild and humid, while summers are less hot. The temperature difference between the two extreme seasons remains more limited. These plants therefore benefit from relatively mild conditions, allowing them to develop over a long period of the year: they do not experience a summer rest period (like most Mediterranean plants do), and winter is not as long as in more continental areas. For the most part, plants in these climates do not like very hot and dry summers, nor excessively marked winters. This is the case for Hydrangeas (Hydrangea macrophylla, used everywhere but often more opulent in these conditions), Pittosporum, or even Phormium.
Some species, such as Elaeagnus ebbingei or Griselinia, also have the ability to withstand sea spray, making them suitable for coastal areas.
