Description

The Buddleija davidii "Pink Delight" is a hardy Butterfly Bush, with summer flowering in large spikes of vivid pink, honey-scented flowers on silver-green foliage.

This robust bush has as a significant bonus its pollinator-friendly and beautifully scented blooms. The flowers are termed "melliferous" as they contain nectar that is particularly attractive to honey bees. It's no wonder it's called the Butterfly Bush. With an elegant habit, the Buddleia davidii 'Pink Delight' develops, opposing, elongated leaves that are deciduous, 25cm (9.8 in) long, green on the upper side and white on the lower side, on softly arching branches. From August to September, it bears large, upright, spires of tiny, densely packed fragrant flowers in a beautiful vivid pink, 25cm (9.8 in) long, which attract many butterflies with their pleasant, honeyed scent.

The 'Pink Delight' Buddleia thrives in well-draining soil, in a sunny, sheltered location. Deadhead the flowers regularly to limit its spread and prune severely in March or April. It can be used individually or in a shrub border with white or yellow potentillas.

Care

Pruning instructions The bush requires only a single pruning after the flowering. However, every 2 to 3 years, it is good to cut back the branches to maintain a compact habit and thus prevent the bush from "opening up". In late winter, around March or April, remove half or even two-thirds of the branches and cut off all dead wood. Buddleias flower on the current year's growth, so be careful not to remove the upcoming flowers.
