Description
Hibiscus syriacus Beautifull® Magenta 'Minsybfcrou01' is an excellent ornamental bush for flowering in the garden from summer to autumn. It offers large, beautiful flowers in a deep magenta pink, with a ruffled centre, produced abundantly on vigorous, well-branched growth. This variety provides regular flowering on the current year's wood, even in continental climates. This versatile and easy-to-grow rose of Sharon is suitable for beds and flowering hedges or large containers. A reliable choice to enjoy flowers until the last warm days!
Hibiscus syriacus Beautifull® Magenta belongs to the Malvaceae family. Commonly called rose of Sharon or tree mallow, the species is a deciduous bush native to East Asia—particularly China, Korea, and Taiwan—where it grows in open, well-drained areas, often on the edges of light forests or on dry ground.
The Beautifull® Magenta cultivar was developed in France by Hortival Diffusion and introduced in 2024. It is part of the Beautifull® series, which groups Hibiscus syriacus selected for their floribundus nature, well-structured upright habit, and semi-double flowering in intense colours. Beautifull® Magenta is an improvement on the variety Magenta Chiffon®, from which it inherits the floral structure, but its colour is a deeper, more consistent magenta pink, and above all, its flowering is extended by an additional five weeks.
It is a naturally upright shrub with vigorous, well-branched growth, forming a dense and balanced subject. In the ground, it reaches approximately 3m in height and 1.5m in width at 10 years. In a container, its growth remains more compact, around 1.5 to 2m, depending on growing conditions. The foliage is deciduous, composed of single, trilobed, alternate, 5 to 10cm long, bright green leaves with toothed edges, which fall in autumn after a slight yellowing.
The abundant and well-distributed flowering spans from July to October. The semi-double flowers measure 8 to 10cm in diameter and feature a dense centre of internal petaloid petals, creating a voluminous effect. Their bright, clear hue remains stable throughout the season. Though not fragrant, they are still loved by bees, bumblebees, and other pollinators. This cultivar produces few fruits, which limits deadheading and promotes a beautiful overall appearance. The grey-brown stems are sturdy, straight, and woody from the second year. This robust wood allows the plant to withstand bad weather well and support the flowering without drooping.
With its magnificent flowering, Hibiscus syriacus Beautifull® Magenta adds depth and colour to summer scenes. It can be placed at the back of a bed or in a flowering hedge, alongside evergreen ceanothus, pink crape myrtles, or mauve ones ('Lilac Grand Sud'), a large white rose ('Snow Goose') or a red one (Rosa moyesii 'Geranium'), for example. In a large container on a south-facing terrace, it becomes a decorative focal point, framed by dahlias. It is a bush that imposes its style but integrates flexibly into well-thought-out compositions.

Planting and care
Plant Hibiscus syriacus 'Beautifull Magenta' in spring or autumn, in a sunny position, or even partial shade in southern regions, in deep, loose, fairly rich soil. Lime is well tolerated. Make a large planting hole, add some compost and sand to your garden soil to improve the soil quality if needed. Water thoroughly after planting. Don't worry if growth doesn't start until May; this is completely normal for this bush.
Although rose mallows tolerate heat and occasionally dry soils, they are more beautiful and floriferous in soil that retains some moisture in summer. Mulch around the base of these generous bushes if necessary.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
The flowering period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions located in USDA zone 8 (France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, etc.)
It will vary according to where you live:- In zones 9 to 10 (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), flowering will occur about 2 to 4 weeks earlier.
- In zones 6 to 7 (Germany, Poland, Slovenia, and lower mountainous regions), flowering will be delayed by 2 to 3 weeks.
- In zone 5 (Central Europe, Scandinavia), blooming will be delayed by 3 to 5 weeks.
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.
The planting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions located in USDA zone 8 (France, United Kingdom, Ireland, Netherlands).
It will vary according to where you live:
- In Mediterranean zones (Marseille, Madrid, Milan, etc.), autumn and winter are the best planting periods.
- In continental zones (Strasbourg, Munich, Vienna, etc.), delay planting by 2 to 3 weeks in spring and bring it forward by 2 to 4 weeks in autumn.
- In mountainous regions (the Alps, Pyrenees, Carpathians, etc.), it is best to plant in late spring (May-June) or late summer (August-September).
The harvesting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions in USDA zone 8 (France, England, Ireland, the Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...) fruit and vegetable harvests are likely to be delayed by 3-4 weeks.
In warmer areas (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), harvesting will probably take place earlier, depending on weather conditions.
The sowing periods indicated on our website apply to countries and regions within USDA Zone 8 (France, UK, Ireland, Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...), delay any outdoor sowing by 3-4 weeks, or sow under glass.
In warmer climes (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), bring outdoor sowing forward by a few weeks.
