Hydrangea serrata Avelroz® ‘Dolmyf’ est une sélection d'hortensia des montagnes compacte, appréciée pour ses fleurs roses et son feuillage coloré. En été, ses inflorescences plates arborent un cœur de petites fleurs fertiles rose soutenu et une couronne de grands fleurons rose vif à centre blanc. Le feuillage, vert teinté de pourpre dès le printemps, prend des tons plus soutenus en automne. Très florifère et naturellement arrondi, cet arbuste s'intègre dans les petits jardins et les massifs de mi-ombre. Il se cultive aussi dans un grand pot sur une terrasse ombragée.
L’Hortensia AVELROZ® appartient à la famille des Hydrangéacées. C’est un arbuste caduc : ses rameaux persistent d’une année sur l’autre, mais ses feuilles tombent en automne. Hydrangea serrata est une espèce botanique originaire du Japon et de Corée. Dans la nature, elle pousse dans les forêts et leurs lisières, souvent dans des endroits frais. Plus compact que beaucoup d’Hydrangea macrophylla, doté d'un feuillage plus fin, il porte des inflorescences plates ou légèrement bombées. Avelroz® est le nom commercial de la sélection ‘Dolmyf’, obtenue en France par Marie-France et Yves Doll et diffusée par SAPHO. Cette variété forme un buisson dense, arrondi et bien ramifié, facile à loger dans un petit espace. Selon les conditions de culture, la plante atteint 1 à 1,50 m de hauteur pour une largeur comparable. Les jeunes rameaux présentent des teintes brun pourpré. Les feuilles ovales et dentées sont vertes, lavées de pourpre au printemps, deviennent plus vertes en été, puis prennent des tons pourpres à rouges en automne. En juin et juillet, les rameaux portent de nombreuses inflorescences plates pouvant approcher 15 cm de diamètre. Le centre est composé de petites fleurs fertiles rose soutenu, entourées de fleurons stériles plus grands, rose vif, dont le centre s’éclaircit nettement à l’ouverture. Cette floraison est plus légère que les grosses têtes rondes de nombreux hortensias classiques et ne cache pas le feuillage. Les fleurs changent aussi progressivement de couleur au fil des jours. En terre acide, le rose peut évoluer vers des nuances plus violettes ou bleutées ; en sol neutre, il reste plus franchement rose. Une seconde floraison, moins abondante, peut apparaître en septembre, dans de bonnes conditions, notamment après la suppression des premières fleurs fanées. Cette variété résiste à des températures proches de -20 °C. Elle préfère la mi-ombre et une terre humifère qui garde de la fraîcheur en été.
Cette variété Avelroz® se plante à mi-ombre dans un grand massif, près d’une terrasse, devant des arbustes plus hauts ou dans un grand bac. Il trouve naturellement sa place dans un jardin à l’anglaise, un jardin flamand ou un jardin d’ombre. On peut l’associer à des petits arbustes persistants de terre de bruyère tels que le Pieris japonica ‘Little Heath’, le Leucothoe fontanesiana ‘Scarletta’, le Skimmia japonica ‘Rubella’ ou le Sarcococca confusa. Vous pouvez également créer une belle haie composée de différentes variétés d'Hydrangea serrata contre un mur exposé au nord ou au nord-est.

Planting and care
Hydrangea serrata Avelroz® ‘Dolmyf’ is best planted in autumn or spring, in partial shade. Morning sun suits it well if the soil remains moist; however, avoid scorching sites and drying winds. Plant it in a deep, humus-bearing, well-drained soil, acid to neutral, or very slightly alkaline. There is no need to fill the planting hole with pure heather soil: instead, mix mature compost or leaf mould into the garden soil to improve its structure and water retention. Water regularly for the first two years and during dry periods, then mulch the soil. In a pot, choose a large container with drainage holes in the bottom, and a humus-bearing growing medium that stays moist.
