Description

Hydrangea serrata Avelroz® 'Dolmyf' is a recent French creation that is very elegant and bright. Its vibrant pink flowers reveal a white heart as they bloom, giving an impression of light. These vibrant colours stand out against beautiful foliage that turns purple as the season progresses. This hydrangea blooms abundantly in June-July and has the potential for a second flowering in September.

Hydrangea serrata Avelroz® 'Dolmyf' has a rounded and well-branched habit. It will perfectly suit the shady corners of your garden. The flowers are grouped in inflorescences known as "grandmother's bonnet". This means a crown of large sterile flowers surrounds smaller fertile flowers. Here, the sterile flowers are a vibrant pink, but it should be noted that in acidic soil these flowers turn blue.

This hydrangea is particularly hardy. It can be grown in both pots and flower beds, and its flowers can be enjoyed fresh or dried.

Planting and care

Plant in a shady or semi-shady location. This type of bush does not tolerate excessively chalky soils, so be careful to create a nice planting hole enriched with ericaceous soil. Add some draining material and sand to the planting hole to lighten the soil. Prune in late winter. Remove dead wood and regularly rejuvenate by cutting back old stems that have turned somewhat grey. Cut these branches above a large bud. It will appreciate a 5 cm (2 in) layer of mulch on the soil to keep it cool at the base during summer. Cut off the first flowers to encourage a later bloom.
