Our range of Portuguese Laurels (Prunus lusitanica). Originating from Mediterranean regions and the Iberian Peninsula, the Portuguese laurel stands out with its evergreen, dense and glossy foliage, making it an excellent hedge shrub or specimen plant.

Among the varieties, the Portuguese laurel 'Angustifolia' can reach a height of 4 to 6 meters, with a more upright habit and narrower leaves, making it a perfect choice for formal hedges. The cultivar 'Myrtifolia', on the other hand, is more compact, usually reaching a height of 3 to 4 meters. With its smaller foliage, it is ideal for small gardens or limited spaces. Also discover the Prunus lusitanica 'Variegata' with its bright variegated foliage. All these varieties can make magnificent topiaries or beautiful standalone plants, adding structure and greenery throughout the year.

The leaves of Prunus lusitanica release a subtle fragrance when crushed. In late spring, this plant is adorned with clusters of small white flowers, delicately scented, which attract bees and other pollinators. The fruits that follow, black drupes resembling small cherries, are enjoyed by birds, although they are not edible for humans.

Portuguese Laurels prefer well-drained soil and can tolerate a sunny to semi-shaded exposure. Although they are drought-resistant once established, it is advisable to water them regularly during their first year and prune them once or twice a year to maintain a neat habit.
