Our range of Cherry Trees, derived from Prunus avium, known as the Bird Cherry or Wild Cherry. These trees offer beautiful spring flowering. The species produces bitter cherries that birds love. It has given rise to the wonderful Prunus avium ‘Plena’ with its abundant double, pure white flowers illuminating the garden in April.
Native to Europe and Western Asia, the cherry tree belongs to the family of Rosaceae. This tree has a tall habit, reaching up to 20-25 m in height. Its deciduous bright green foliage turns fiery shades in autumn. The classic Prunus avium produces small red to black cherries, loved by birds and ideal for making jams or liqueurs.
Hardy and undemanding, the cherry tree thrives in deep, moist, well-drained soil, in a sunny exposure. It also adapts to limestone soils and withstands winter frosts well. Used individually, in a country hedge or a row, it elegantly structures the space. Its wood is highly valued in cabinetmaking.
