Description

Crocus ancyrensis 'Golden Bunch' is a selected variety bearing yellow-orange flowers with a mandarin-orange centre. Its colour is more intense than the botanical species and it produces more flowers. The beautiful heart of almost red-orange stamens is only visible during the day, as the flower closes at night. It is undoubtedly one of the earliest bulbs, flowering at the same time as snowdrops.

Leave crocus bulbs in place. They easily naturalise and form bright patches.

Scatter them in lawns, in borders, and in rockeries. You can also use them to make pretty pots on a patio. You can mow your lawn once the flowering is over, and you will be able to walk over it without damaging the flowering for the following year. A sowing of crocus bulbs provides a beautiful country atmosphere even in the smallest gardens.

Planting and care

Plant Crocus ancyrensis 'Golden Bunch' bulbs from September to December, in light and well-drained soil, at a depth of 5cm (2in) and with a spacing of 5cm (2in). Alternatively, plant them in groups of three every 15 to 20cm (6 to 8in). Choose a sunny spot to enjoy a more beautiful flowering. It is preferable to leave them in place. They will form increasingly floriferous clumps. Also consider making a few pots for a patio.
