Beautiful bright yellow colour for the first spring flower. Tall on stem and already finished flowering (contrary to what is said in May). I think the weeks of almost uninterrupted rain didn't help with the proper flowering. Mixed with daffodils and narcissus, white and black tulips made a beautiful effect, in containers and pots.

Description

The late single Tulip 'Roi du Midi' blooms late, in May, proudly displaying its long and large flowers of a bright and pure yellow well above most other tulips. This variety not only offers an elegantly sunny and pleasantly fragrant flowering, but it is particularly perennial and resistant to diseases that often afflict tulips in moist soil during the summer. Whether in flowerbeds or bouquets, 'Roi du Midi' is a flower that stands out and brings that essential touch of cheerfulness.

.

The 'Roi du Midi' Tulip, introduced in 1991 in the Netherlands, belongs to the Liliaceae family. Of horticultural origin, it is currently classified in Division 5, which is characterized by late-season flowering. It can reach a height of 60 to 70cm (24 to 28in) when in bloom, depending on growing conditions. Perched on tall stems well above the lanceolate leaves in a green-grey colour, the flowers are elongated, elegant, thick in substance, and long-lasting in bouquets. The flowering generally takes place in early May, making it useful in the garden.

With their range of colours, sturdy and resistant flowers, suitable for both flowerbeds and bouquets, the reputation of late single tulips is well-established. They are already among the most planted varieties. Unmatched in bringing the colours of spring to pots or sunny gardens, don't forget to consider the height and flowering period when designing your flowerbeds, as these parameters can vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is wise to plant a few more bulbs for cutting, as they make beautiful long-lasting cut flowers.

Planting and care

Place the late single tulip 'Roi du Midi' preferably in a sunny location from October to December for a beautiful spring flowering. You can also place it in a partially shaded area. Plant the bulbs as soon as possible in a light, fertile, and well-drained soil, loosened to a depth of 15cm (6in) (the bulbs should be covered with soil to a depth twice their height). Space the bulbs 10cm (4in) apart, making sure they don't touch each other for a mass effect. Cut the flower stems after flowering. Allow the leaves to dry completely before cutting them. Tulips do not like stagnant moisture.
