Description

The botanical Tulipa humilis 'Persian Pearl' is a variety with tonal flowers, purplish pink and pale pink, very graphic.

Tulipa humilis, meaning "of small size", is a wild species rarely exceeding 20cm (8in) in height. Native from the mountains of Iran to Turkey, it thrives in rocky and well-drained areas.

The 'Persian Pearl' variety is renowned for the elegance of its globular and variegated flowers, the tepals, which are very unique, are purplish pink and pale pink with a yellow centre.

In our gardens, Tulipa humilis 'Persian Pearl' will appreciate sunny exposures as well as well-drained, neutral or limestone soils.

Planting and care

Plant your Tulipa humilis 'Persian Pearl' as soon as possible in a well-drained soil. Loosen the soil deeply. Plant at a depth of 15cm (6in) (Bulbs should be covered with twice their height in soil). Space the bulbs a few cm apart, making sure they do not touch. Choose a sunny exposure for better flowering. After flowering, cut the flower stalks and allow the leaves to dry completely before cutting them. After flowering, their foliage becomes unsightly and we recommend planting Heuchera, Tiarella, Brunnera, Bleeding Heart, Euphorbia cyparissia at the forefront of your flowerbeds. Their foliage will enhance the colours of your tulips and during the season, they will elegantly conceal their yellowed leaves.
