Romaine Lettuce Ovired

The 'Ovired' Cos Lettuce is an original mini-cos variety, with dark red leaves veined with green. It can be grown as baby leaves for an early and tender harvest, or as small, compact hearts if given more space. Both decorative and tasty, it combines crunch and sweetness; an ideal choice for diversifying salads! Sow from February to July for a harvest from June to October.

The 'Ovired' cos lettuce grows very well in organic cultivation.

Lettuce is one of the most popular vegetables (4.2 kilos are consumed per person per year), as much for its freshness and crunch as for its taste and nutritional qualities. It can be eaten raw, in salads, as a mix of colourful baby leaves, but also cooked, for example, to accompany peas or stews.
The leaf vegetable par excellence, Lettuce is an annual plant belonging to the large Asteraceae family. Its Latin name, Lactuca sativa, refers to the white sap (lactuca) that flows when it is cut and to the fact that it is cultivated (sativa).

It is an essential vegetable in any self-respecting kitchen garden and, thanks to the diversity of its varieties, it is possible to harvest it almost all year round. Growing lettuce is easy as long as you follow the cultivation calendar for each variety. Its growth is rapid, and it thrives in any rich, well-drained soil that remains moist.

Harvesting the 'Ovired' cos lettuce: harvest with a knife, either by cutting tender leaves from young shoots, or by picking the small hearts once they are well-formed.
Storage: Lettuce keeps for a few days in the refrigerator, but to enjoy it at its freshest, consume it quickly after harvest. Cooked lettuce can be frozen.
