Pattypan squashes, also known as bishop's bonnet squashes, are summer squashes with original shapes and varied colors. Their dual appeal lies in their unique aesthetic appearance and delicate flavor. The most well-known variety is the 'White Pattypan', distinguished by its white skin and tender flesh. The 'Orange Pattypan', with its vibrant skin and sweet flesh, is another must-have in this category. Lastly, the 'Verrucate Variegated Pattypan', less common, adds a touch of diversity with its green and white verrucate skin and nutty flavor. Our range of pattypan squash seeds also includes an organic option.

A forgotten vegetable in our gardens, the tasty flesh of the pattypan squash has recently regained its culinary prestige, wonderfully enhancing the flavors of the dishes it accompanies. The dense flesh of the pattypan squash offers a mildly sweet taste, very similar to that of an artichoke heart. Pattypan squashes are prized for their versatility in cooking—they can be stuffed, roasted, or used in gratins.

Like all squashes, pattypans are easy to grow in open ground, requiring rich, well-drained soil and full sun exposure. Pattypan squash seeds are planted in spring after the last frosts, with regular watering to keep the soil moist.
