Description

This Zea mays fodder corn is ideal for producing fresh forage and grains to feed poultry. The fresh forage is ready from September and the dry grain can be harvested from October. Sow this corn directly in open ground from April to June.

Zea mays is an annual plant from the Poaceae family (grasses) with strong vegetative growth, native to Mexico. It is mainly cultivated for its starch-rich grains, but also as a fodder plant. This mixture will allow you to produce your own pet food. This corn has been selected for its palatability, its nutritional value, and of course its yield.

The small, round grains can be used for poultry feed, particularly for chickens and pigeons. Harvest the ears from October to November. Store the grains in a dry and well-ventilated place.
It can also be freshly cut from September to provide energy-rich forage for rabbits, sheep, goats, and even horses.

Planting and care

Sow the corn in full sun after soaking the seeds in warm water for 12 hours. Corn appreciates rich, deep, loosened soils enriched with well-decomposed manure or compost. Sow in open ground from April to June in rows in well-warmed soil (at least 12°C). Dig furrows 2 to 3 cm deep, spaced 60 to 70 cm apart and sow thinly. After germination, thin to 20 to 30 cm apart in the row. 500g of seeds covers an area of about 50m². Provide ample water supply during flowering .
