The Broad Bean - Vicia faba - of the family Fabaceae is an annual leguminous plant cultivated for its generous beans enclosed in a well-filled pod. Hardy, the Broad Bean is content with poor or clay soils and is very easy to grow.  It can be eaten raw with butter and salt, like radishes, when the bean is young. Maturer beans can be consumed cooked and used in same recipes with other dried beans or peas. The Broad Bean is rich in proteins, carbohydrates, and fibres, making it an excellent energising food. It also contains vitamins B, C, and E.
