Description

Alstroemeria Duchesses d’Anjou Emilie® is a compact and generous Peruvian Lily, notable for its long flowering period and neat appearance. This variety is well-suited to flowering containers, cut flower arrangements, borders, and small beds. Its flowers are fresh pink tinged with rosy white and are produced continuously from late spring until the first frosts. It is a charming plant that flowers profusely without taking up too much space.

This variety belongs to the Alstroemeriaceae family. It is commonly called alstroemeria, Peruvian Lily or Lily of the Incas. It is part of the Duchesses d’Anjou series, a group of compact, floriferous alstroemerias well-adapted to beds and containers.
Emilie® is a horticultural creation developed in France by Turcieflor and launched in 2024. Like most modern garden alstroemerias, it is a complex hybrid derived from South American lines.
Emilie® is a perennial with a rhizomatous crown and fleshy roots. Its aerial growth dies back in winter and re-emerges from the ground in spring. The plant forms a dense, well-branched clump, 30 to 40 cm in all directions. The entire, elongated, bright green leaves are arranged alternately along the stems. Flowering lasts from May-June until October. The flowers, grouped at the ends of the stems, measure about 5 cm in diameter. They have the typical structure of alstroemerias and consist of six tepals. Their colouring is more nuanced than a simple pink with a white centre. The flower is a fresh pink to pastel pink, with fairly broad rosy white areas at the base of the tepals. The two inner tepals show a small orange-yellow throat and a few fine, darker streaks. The overall effect is soft, bright, and fresh.
Hardy down to -7/-8°C in well-drained soil, this alstroemeria benefits from a winter mulch in cooler regions, or can be grown in a pot for better protection.

Plant Peruvian Lily Emilie® at the front of a sunny bed or in a large container on a terrace. Its stems, although quite short, can still be used for beautiful small cut flower arrangements. You can pair it with Scabious ‘Butterfly Blue’, light and well-defined, Geranium sanguineum ‘Compactum’, which clothes its base, or Erigeron glaucus ‘Sea Breeze’, low-growing and floriferous.

Planting and care

Plant Alstroemeria Duchesses d'Anjou Emilie in spring. Choose a location in full sun or partial shade, in a light, well-drained, well-worked soil with a sandy or silty tendency and low in lime, enriched with compost. Watering during dry periods will support their summer flowering. These plants are moderately hardy, down to -7/-8°C, provided the soil remains dry in winter. The crown can be protected in autumn with a thick mulch of leaves or fern fronds. Slugs are very fond of the young shoots; be sure to protect them. Growing in pots allows the plants to be sheltered from frost by storing them in a bright, airy, and very minimally heated room.
