Sophora is an ornamental tree or bush from the Fabaceae family, renowned for its fragrant and honey-producing flowering, much like Sophora japonica, probably the most well-known.

There are currently around 31 species of Sophora, with evergreen or deciduous foliage, originating from temperate and warm regions from southeastern Europe to Asia, North and South America. Among Sophoras, you can find small twisted bushes such as the variety  'Little Baby' adapted to small gardens and pot cultivation. There are also small trees like the magnificent Weeping Sophora (Sophora japonica 'Pendula') for medium-sized gardens and of course the traditional Japanese Sophora, a beautiful tree for parks and large gardens.

Others are worth discovering, such as the deciduous Sophora davidii, with white to blue-mauve spring flowers, so pretty in an informal hedge. All Sophoras have a characteristic flowering, composed of pea-like flowers and light, compound foliage. Hardy and easy to grow, they thrive in well-drained, even dry and poor soils.

You'll adore them!
