The Orard Rose Gardens were created in 1930 in Feyzin, south of Lyon, by Pierre-Joseph Orard, following in the footsteps of the great dynasties of Lyon rose breeders. This region benefits from a contrasting climate between summer and winter, but without excess, and from soils that are both clayey, loamy, and stony, favourable for the cultivation of roses as well as vines. At Orard, the range of varieties is complete, with large-flowered roses like the famous 'Reine des Parfums', bush roses for mass planting ('Abbatiale de Pontigny'), landscape roses, and climbers ('Long Island'). The rigorous selection of varieties, constantly renewed, is currently focused on fragrance, disease resistance, as well as compatibility with container cultivation. All varieties are tested and proven in Lyon nurseries, as well as with international partners (USA, South Africa, New Zealand, Japan, etc.). Some Orard creations have been blooming around the world for several years, like 'Anita Pereire' ('Single White'), a cascade groundcover with white, single flowers, consecrated by the All-America Rose Selections in 2000 and the Bagatelle Rose Garden Prize in 1996. More recent, but already award-winning, are the superb 'Anne de Kiev', pure and virginal, or 'Anahe', loved in its soft peach dress. One of the latest creations from the Orard house, 'Jeanne Cœur', white with an intense lemony fragrance, is destined for a bright future. Many Orard creations have won prestigious competitions and are featured in international catalogs. Discover these magnificent roses.
