Whether they are annuals, perennials or shrubs, the salvias (Salvia in Latin) are always very decorative. Their only  drawback is that heavy and humid soils,  they have a tendency to live for only a short time. The majority of Salvias like light, porous, poor, rocky, sandy or limestone soils and grow in full sun. Therefore, the place where they thrive and flower really well is in a mineral bed, a rock garden or a Mediterranean garden. In the north, they should be exposed to the south and planted in raised beds to avoid moisture stagnation over winter. The Salvia jamensis and microphylla salvias are particularly floriferous and require a perfectly well-drained soil, otherwise the combination of frost and moisture can be fatal to them.

You'll love them!
