Our range of hardy citrus trees. Suited to cold climates and tolerating a degree of frost, these varieties can withstand temperatures between -7°C and -15°C. The Yuzu citrus tree is one of the most renowned hardy citrus trees and a mature tree can withstand temperatures down to -12°C. Its intensely aromatic fruit is highly valued in Japanese cuisine for enhancing sauces and desserts. The 'Satsuma' Mandarin tree is perfect for those with a sweet tooth who want to harvest mandarins in cooler climates. It can tolerate temperatures close to -10°C and produces delicious, easy-to-peel sweet fruits. Poncirus trifoliata, also known as the thorny lemon tree, is a decorative and hardy citrus tree that can withstand temperatures of -15°C. Its small bitter fruits are often used to make marmalades. It can also be used as a robust rootstock for other citrus trees. The 'Meyer' Lemon tree deserves a place in the garden of hardy citrus tree enthusiasts. This hybrid variety, resulting from the cross-breeding of a lemon tree and an orange tree, can tolerate temperatures down to -10°C. It produces fruits with a sweet and slightly sugary flesh that should be harvested before heavy frosts. Its fragrant flowering and intensely yellow fruits also make it a decorative bush.

Like other citrus trees, so-called hardy varieties prefer full sun exposure and well-drained soil. They are only hardy when mature, well-established plants. It is also worth noting that fruits are always more sensitive to frost than the tree itself. In winter, they require little maintenance, but mulching at the base can be useful to enhance their cold resistance.
