A selection of dwarf Abelia grandiflora, which does not exceed 1.50 m (5ft) in height. Similar to the variety 'Prostrata', these abelias remain small in size, perfectly suited for small gardens and container cultivation. They are charming semi-evergreen bushes prized for their variegated foliage (Abelia grandiflora 'Kaleidoscope', 'Sparkling Silver', Abelia (x) grandiflora 'Happy Daydream'...) or their abundant pink flowering in dwarf abelia varieties like 'Pastel Charm' or 'Petite Garden' for example. The flowering of the dwarf abelia can also be tinged with yellow, for example in the Abelia x grandiflora 'Sunny Charm'. In spring, the reddish young shoots are very decorative and the autumn foliage of the abelia often takes on beautiful bronze to purple tones. These compact bushes are more or less hardy (up to -10/-12°C (14/10.4°F) depending on the cultivars), but well adapted to coastal areas and dry, even limestone, soils. Pruning is limited to thinning the branches after flowering and removing old wood.
