Prostanthera, or Australian mint, are small Australian shrubs, often frost-sensitive, but some species can adapt to a mild European climate. The bush has evergreen foliage that is very aromatic (smelling of mint or camphor), while the white or pink flowers have a helmet shape. They are also known as bush mints.
The species Prostanthera cuneata is one of the hardiest (-12 °C) and spreads up to 1m (3ft) in height and a bit more in width. It can be grown in both shade and sun. Australian mint adapts perfectly to sandy or clayey soils, from acidic to neutral, as long as they remain moist and well-drained. It does not tolerate sea spray.
