Our selection of winter honeysuckles. When winter settles in, these deciduous bushes produce a pleasantly fragrant flowering, brightening the garden despite the cold. The well-known Lonicera fragrantissima, or winter honeysuckle, reveals its small white flowers with a sweet scent as early as January, attracting the first pollinators. Lonicera x purpusii ‘Winter Beauty’ stands out with its slightly golden or pinkish cream flowers, diffusing a delightful fragrance on its bare branches. Lonicera standishii is hardy and reliable but less well known, adorning itself with white, sometimes pinkish, well-scented flowers from November to March.
These hardy and undemanding bushes thrive in a sunny to partially shaded exposure and well-drained soil. Light pruning after flowering helps maintain their elegant silhouette.
