Our range of Poncirus, hardy citrus trees suited to temperate climates. The Poncirus trifoliata, called trifoliate orange or sometimes hardy orange tree, is known for its hardiness down to -15°C and its stems armed with long thorns. This bush flowers in spring, revealing small fragrant white flowers, followed by yellow-orange fruits in autumn which are not edible raw but can be used in marmalade.
With its twisted habit and zigzag branches, the ‘Flying Dragon’ makes a highly ornamental specimen, perfect for defensive hedges or as a bonsai. The classic form of Poncirus trifoliata is often used as a graft for other citrus trees due to its hardiness and low soil requirements.
Poncirus trees thrive in sunny, well-drained, preferably acidic to neutral soil even dry in summer. They require little maintenance apart from occasional pruning to control growth or shape their habit.
