Small fruit seeds allow you to sow your own delicious varieties, multiply young berry plants at a lower cost and introduce to the garden, vegetable patch, or in pots some original and exotic fruit trees to harvest throughout the season. Sowing also allows you to follow the crops from the start, test less common varieties and enjoy the simple pleasure of seeing the plantings sprout and then bear fruit.
The wild strawberry 'Mignonette' produces small, fragrant red strawberries, while 'Yellow Wonder' is distinguished by its creamy yellow, sweet fruits which are less attractive to birds. With its long runners and flexible habit, the wild strawberry 'Attila' can be grown as an edging, in a hanging basket or in a large pot on the balcony. Physalis peruviana, or cape gooseberry, offers tangy berries enclosed in a decorative calyx.
Thus, small fruit seeds offer a simple way to create a varied, decorative and productive kitchen garden while leaving the choice of cultivation method.
To succeed, sow at the right time under cover or in a seed tray according to the variety, transplant into open ground when the young plants are sufficiently developed, then water regularly while monitoring their growth.
