Eryngium alpinum, giant sea holly....Unfamiliar names for exceptional plants: blue star sea holly, thistle....Perfect in dry and stony soil, well-drained and even salty (it tolerates coastal areas well), the thistle has made a comeback in contemporary gardens for its highly graphic habit and the bluish reflections of many varieties.
