The Pea is an annual vegetable grown in the vegetable garden for its pods with Sugar snap peas or Snow peas, or for its seeds with Garden peas. There are dwarf varieties and climbing varieties called "climbing" that require support for their growth. In the vegetable garden, Peas are sown very early in the year, as early as February. Its seed can be smooth like that of the Provençal Petit Pois or wrinkled like 'Kelvedon Wonder'; in the latter case, it will have a sweeter juice. Peas also contain fibre, iron, and vitamins C and B9 and are known to have antioxidant properties.
