Our White Flower Thistles. Known for their blue flowers, "thistles" can also display white, grey, silvery tones. This is the case for Eryngium giganteum whose inflorescences are adorned with beautiful silvery bracts, Cirsium 'Frosted Magic', a pure white version of the riverside thistle or Echinops bannaticus 'Star Frost' whose flowers resemble small frost balls. Less commonly grown, the beautiful Alpine Carline Thistle Carlina acaulis with its very short stem bears a large head with white-silvery bracts. These varieties naturally find their place in natural meadows and country settings. Thistles are undemanding, easy to grow and incomparable for spicing up a bed. They are ornamental with their flowers of original design, very long-lasting in beds as well as in fresh or dried bouquets. But also for their generally prickly foliage, sometimes beautifully variegated or historic, animated with metallic reflections.
