A selection of aromatic yarrows. Among the genus Achillea, yarrow is a well-known medicinal and aromatic plant. But many other species and varieties derived from sweet yarrow (Achillea odorata), Achillea ptarmica Nana, sneezewort or sneezing herb, or even Achillea filipendulina are used in herbal medicine. Their foliage, fragrant when crushed, is rich in essential oils. Combining usefulness with pleasure, horticulturists have created many interesting varieties and hybrids for their aromatic foliage and beautiful flowering. The 'Silver Button' Achillea ptarmica 'Boule de Neige' and its white pompoms, the hybrid yarrow 'Coronation Gold', with long bright yellow flowering and feathery silver-green scented foliage. 'Credo' is a beautiful hybrid of yarrow with lemon-yellow umbels and fragrant foliage. Yarrow is a robust, floriferous, hardy, easy-to-grow perennial plant requiring little maintenance.
