Lobelias are sown in the spring, in a tray kept at 18°C (64.4°F). They are small annual plants (or non-hardy perennials) with a long and generous flowering period, easy to grow, appreciated for their tiny flowers in light clusters that bloom incessantly from June to October. They like sunny or semi-shaded positions and a light, rich, moist, and well-drained soil. Often derived from Lobelias erinus, numerous varieties are available in colours ranging from white to deep blue, with a more or less trailing or spreading habit, ideal for the patio or balcony during the summer season. Maintenance consists of pruning after the first flowering to promote a second bloom and regular watering and feeding for flowering plants.
