Planting climbing plants in pairs allows for a spectacular effect when they bloom simultaneously. One can also hide the flaws of the other, like clematis that beautifully adorn the often bare base of a climbing rose, or when its summer flowering takes over from a non-perpetual rose. If you plant a new plant at the base of an already established climbing plant, keep them at least 50cm (20in) apart; otherwise, plant them in the same hole for an even more successful effect!
