The Gourds areĀ a group containing vegetables such as Pumpkin or Butternut Squash, which belong to the Cucurbitaceae family. They are grown in the vegetable garden for their large and tasty fruit. Harvested in autumn, the Gourd is a term that encompasses several species: Cucurbita pepo such as Pattypan Squash, then Cucurbita moschata with its musky taste like Butternut Squash, or the rarer Cucurbita argyrosperma. It is often imagined with orange skin and flesh, but it exists in all colours. The Lady Godiva Squash is grown more for its seed than for its stringy and tasteless flesh.
