Nasturtiums are remarkable climbing plants. They grow quickly and can cover a fence in just a few weeks, attaching themselves with the help of the leaf petioles. They inevitably attract aphids, which then leave the rest of the garden. Annual varieties, especially the common nasturtium (tropaeolum majus), are most well-known for their large flowers and round, bluish-green leaves. Perennial varieties such as, tuberous nasturtium and tropaeolum ciliatum are often unjustifiably overlooked.
