Cucumber is a fleshy fruit related to the gherkin pickle and consumed as a summer vegetable for its refreshing character. Filled with water, its cultivation requires sun, heat, and abundant watering. This vegetable, originally from India, is particularly grown in Mediterranean regions. Easy to grow, its seeds are sown in March or April in warm buckets. It is harvested 4 months later and enjoyed raw for its crunchiness, sometimes cooked. Low in calories but rich in vitamins and minerals, Cucumber is reputed to be a powerful antioxidant and thirst quencher.
