Centranthus is a hardy perennial plant that is easy to grow. The dark green leaves with a bluish hue are arranged opposite each other along 1 metre (3 feet) tall stems. The red or white flowers are lightly scented. They are arranged in dense corymbs at the top of the elongating stems. The flowering period extends from May to September. Plant the valerian in a dry and well-drained soil, in a sunny exposure.
