Our collection of Sideritis. Also known as shepherd's tea, Greek tea, Cretan tea or Mountain tea, these Mediterranean perennials are prized for their aromatic foliage and medicinal properties. These plants from the Lamiaceae family thrive in dry, rocky soils.

The most well-known species, Sideritis scardica, forms small clumps with silvery, fuzzy foliage, topped with pale yellow flower spikes in summer. It is valued both for its ornamental appeal and its use in herbal teas. The Sideritis syriaca, native to Crete, features woolly leaves and bright yellow flowers, thriving in warm, sunny, and dry climates. Sideritis hyssopifolia, the hyssop-leaved Sideritis, grows in our limestone mountains. This species displays a more compact habit and upright spikes of creamy-yellow flowers.

Excellent rock garden plants, Sideritis flourish in full sun, in well-drained, poor, even calcareous soil. Moderate watering is sufficient, as these plants tolerate summer drought perfectly. Light pruning after flowering stimulates growth and maintains their compact habit.
