Also known as Primula vulgaris, Garden Primroses are perennial plants, often grown as biennials, robust and very hardy. They are floriferous plants, which form pretty clumps of dense foliage, 15 to 20cm (6 to 8in) tall and 25 to 30cm (10 to 12in) wide, in just a few months. They develop persistent rosettes of crinkled and veined leaves, in a beautiful bright green. They bloom from December-January for the earliest ones, to March-April for the latest ones. The flowers, single or double, are yellow, orange, purple, white, blue and even red. Versatile biennials, they are easy to grow. They deserve a place in every garden and on every balcony. In borders or in planters on a balcony, these little plants are ideal companions for tulips, pansies, horned violets and forget-me-nots. They are perfect in borders, low flower beds under leafy cover, in rockeries and short grass meadows, among snowdrops and violets.
