I already ordered Primula Belarina last year and they took very well (except for one ????) and bloomed wonderfully. So, I'm going for another colour this year. The plants are in mini-pots and are very strong. They should establish without any problem.

Description

This Primula 'Belarina Beaujolais', with its fascinating colour, is perhaps the most unique of this excellent series of double-flowered Belarina primroses. Its flowers, which range between violet and purple, are randomly dotted with white along the edges of the petals. Sprinkled with stars, they seem to twinkle. And the spectacle of this flowering begins in January and ends in April. The flowers are long-lasting and they bloom on a small, round, and tidy clump. This biennial is very attractive and perfect for pots, containers, borders, and even grows in shade in fertile and moist soil.

The Primula 'Belarina Beaujolais' is a herbaceous perennial plant from the primrose family, derived from our perennial and native Primula vulgaris. It is part of a series of recent cultivars that stand out for their uniform and compact growth, their flowering from December-January to March-April, the doubling of their corollas, and their vibrant and original colours. They are floriferous plants that form beautiful clumps of dense foliage, reaching heights of 15 to 20 cm (6 to 8in) and widths of 25 to 30 cm (10 to 12in). They develop rosettes of wrinkled and veined leaves in a beautiful green colour, which persist throughout winter. 'Belarina Beaujolais' produces 3 cm (1in) diameter flowers for 4 to 5 weeks. They are highly double, resembling small roses, in a deep violet-purple colour, with each petal randomly adorned with white dots or dashes along the edges. They are arranged in perfect bouquets, carried by short villous stalks that barely emerge from the luxuriant foliage.

The 'Belarina' primroses are perennials commonly grown as biennials. They deserve a place in every garden and on every balcony. Colourful and floriferous, they announce and precede the arrival of spring. In borders or containers on a balcony, these small plants are ideal companions for tulips, pansies, horned violets, and forget-me-nots. Under the cover of deciduous trees, in rockeries and short grass meadows, they mingle with snowdrops and violets. The leaves and flowers are edible and can be consumed raw or cooked.

Note: Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible into pots, containers, or directly into borders.

Planting and care

The plug plants of double primroses 'Belarina Beaujolais' are planted in pots and containers or directly in the ground in a finely prepared and enriched soil. Plant them, if possible, as soon as you receive them, in September-October. If the intended location is not ready yet or if the conditions are unfavorable for planting, you can let them grow in buckets for 4 to 6 weeks.

In pots and containers, use a good soil for flowering plants (such as geranium compost) enriched with clay and slow-release fertilizer, light and well-draining. The top of the plug should be level with the soil. Water generously at planting and during the following weeks, as the plug plants can dry out quickly. However, be careful with excess water! Make sure to use containers with drainage holes and empty the saucer 10 minutes after watering. Remember to water even during winter if it doesn't rain or if the container is placed in a sheltered spot. Do not water during freezing periods.

Very floriferous and fast-growing, the perennial primroses BELARINA are hungry plants. As soon as growth resumes, in late February or early March, and throughout the flowering period, apply a liquid fertilizer for flowering plants containing iron and trace elements 1 to 2 times a week with the watering water. Remove faded flowers to promote new blooms. Once the flowering is over, the plants in pots can be replanted in the garden in partial shade.
