Columnar Beeches are trees with a narrow, upright habit that elegantly structure the garden. Fagus sylvatica 'Dawyck' is a famous variety with a fastigiate, columnar habit reaching 20m. With rapid growth and dense green foliage, this tree is ideal for creating vertical hedges. The columnar beech 'Dawyck Purple', the purple version, adds a beautiful splash of colour to the garden. The 'Dawyck Gold' cultivar is prized for its golden foliage, which turns to bronze shades in autumn.

Like other beeches, these columnar varieties prefer cool, temperate climates. The soil should be damp and well-drained and always maintain consistent moisture, as beeches do not tolerate drought. Planted as a specimen, they will bring structure and height to the garden.
