Purslane fleshy herb cultivated in vegetable gardens for its crunchy leaves. It has a creeping habit, forming cushions up to 15 cm (6in) tall from which the tastiest young shoots can be harvested. It likes dry soil and full sun and can be sown by scattering or in rows. Although this small herb can also sneak into the garden and take on the appearance of a weed, we should not be fooled as we would be depriving ourselves of a fantastic source of omega-3 and antioxidants. Purslane is highly drought-tolerant.
