Corydalis are herbaceous plants with elongated flowers and highly dissected leaves. These lovely perennials are pure montane plants! Very hardy, the foliage disappears in excessively harsh winters. Their flowering period extends from April to October depending on the species. They tolerate both sunny exposure and light shade, as well as humus-rich, well-drained and moist soil, but compact and wet soils should be avoided. Native to China, Corydalis spread quite rapidly thanks to delicate, glass-like stolons. They are ideal for rockeries or slightly shaded borders.
