Our range of spiked speedwells (Veronica spicata). These sun-loving perennials are prized for their upright, spiked inflorescences, which add vertical interest to borders and beds. The variety ‘Royal Candles’ sets the tone with its compact spikes of dark blue above a tight clump. In a different vein, ‘Rotfuchs’ offers a flowering of a strong pink that is noticeable in summer. The ‘Alba’ form, very bright with its very fine white spikes, pairs well with medium-height ornamental grasses and rose bushes. Lower-growing and well-suited to borders and containers, ‘Baby Blue’ forms a compact clump and flowers in a superb indigo-violet blue.

Spiked speedwells are planted in full sun, in ordinary, well-drained soil, even lime-bearing; they particularly dislike excess water in winter but withstand cold well.
Plant them in loosened and well-drained soil (add gravel to heavy soil), water regularly in the first year and then only in dry weather, and cut back spent stems (with a spring tidy-up) to maintain a dense clump and encourage new flowering.
