Heathers or Calluna are perennial undershrubs, compact in size, forming carpets with a wide range of colors. With a bushy or spreading shape, their graceful vegetation has tiny opposite, narrow leaves and bell-shaped flowers clustered in spikes 15 to 30cm (6 to 12in) long. The arborescent Heather "Great Star Le Vasterival", with white flowers, can reach a height of 1.50m (5ft). These plants are native to South Africa. Heather plants thrive in acidic, fresh, well-drained soil in partial shade without scorching sun. Pruning involves removing faded flowers from the stumps. Fertilization is unnecessary as it often hampers flowering. Heathers can be planted along the edges of heathland shrubs or on poor, dry slopes. It is also a plant that grows well in containers, on a balcony.

You'll adore them!
