Our range of spurges for dry ground is a collection of perennial plants and shrubs suited to dry gardens, sunny rockeries and slopes, in well-drained soil. Euphorbia characias, the Mediterranean spurge, is undoubtedly the most emblematic with its blue-green evergreen foliage and its acid-green flowering in spring. Its subspecies Euphorbia characias ssp. wulfenii is even more impressive with its large inflorescences clearly visible from afar. These drought-resistant spurges create a lasting display with little maintenance once established.

Euphorbia x martinii has a more compact growth, providing interest near pathways or at the front of gravel beds. Euphorbia myrsinites, the Corsican spurge, with its carpeting habit and bluish foliage, is an excellent plant for dry rockeries. Also discover Euphorbia cyparissias ‘Orange Man’, a vigorous groundcover whose fine foliage colours through the seasons.

Spurges for dry soil appreciate sun and grow in poor to ordinary, light, stony or sandy soil, always well-drained. They dislike excess moisture in winter, especially in clayey and heavy soil. Plant them in well-drained soil, water moderately in the first year to encourage rooting, then leave them to nature.
