Description

Quite similar to E. mellifera, becoming a tree in nature, it forms a large shrub in our regions. The ramified stems, very airy, bear a superb thick and leathery lanceolate foliage, bluish-green with a paler central vein, similar in appearance to Rhododendron foliage. This evergreen foliage takes on brick red to coral red colours in winter. The flowers, grouped in large inflorescences, are pale yellow in color. Superb plant, ideal for coastal areas, rarer yet as hardy as E. mellifera. However, it is unlikely to survive a climate colder than USDA Zone 8b. Possible cultivation in a large pot to be brought indoors in a bright, unheated place during periods of intense frost, or cultivation in open ground, in a very well-drained, rocky and humus-rich soil, without limestone.
