Our hardy trees. Large trees such as Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris), Sycamore Maple (Acer pseudoplatanus), and Nordmann Fir (Abies nordmanniana) are renowned for their exceptional cold resistance, down to -15 °C and below. Scots Pine, with its evergreen needles and reddish bark, adds a touch of colour all year round, even in the snow. Sycamore Maple is loved for its dense deciduous foliage and fast growth, providing pleasant shade in summer while withstanding harsh winters. The Nordmann Fir is a popular large conifer in very cold climates and is also the traditional Christmas tree. Don't forget Himalayan Birch (Betula utilis jacquemontii), with its characteristic white bark and delicate leaves, a beautiful deciduous tree that brings real elegance to the garden, even in the coldest regions. White Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna), rustic and indestructible, with its legendary fragrant flowering, is a safe bet and Hornbeam is a classic that withstands the cold very well. There are many other hardy trees to discover on these pages.
