Our range of Lewisia plants. Lewisia cotyledon is the most well-known of the Lewisia plants, perennial plants with colourful flowers used to enhance rockeries and containers. They are distinguished by their resilience and ability to adapt to difficult environments.
Lewisia cotyledon 'Elise' is a popular variety known for its cup-shaped flowers in various shades, ranging from white in 'Elise White' to bright pink, orange, and yellow. It offers continuous flowering from May to September, ideal for adding a touch of colour to your rockeries. Lewisia longipetala, also known as Long-petaled Lewisia, is characterised by its delicate and elongated flowers, often white or pink, which appear in spring and summer. This variety prefers well-drained soils and can tolerate drought conditions, making it an ideal choice for rock gardens. Lewisia tweedyi is particularly prized for its large star-shaped flowers, usually peach or pale pink in colour. It prefers slightly acidic and well-drained soil, as well as a semi-shaded exposure, making it perfect for alpine gardens or shaded containers.
All Lewisia plants are native to the North American Rocky Mountains and were discovered in the early 19th century. Once established, they require little maintenance. These plants prefer well-drained soil and a sunny to semi-shaded exposure. Avoid excessive watering to prevent root rot. In winter, protect them from excessive moisture with mulch or by sheltering them under an awning.
