Currant bushes – Ribes rubrum – of the Grossulariaceae family, are bushy shrubs cultivated for their tart and vitamin-rich red, green, or white berries. Cluster currant or Gooseberry trees produce larger single fruits. These rather hardy small fruit trees are averse to high temperatures and require fairly drastic annual pruning as the 2 to 3-year-old branches bear the most fruit. Currantbushes prefer rich and slightly acidic soil, but can tolerate any type of soil as long as it is neither too dry nor waterlogged. They can be easily propagated by taking cuttings, sowing, or layering.

You'll adore them!
