Our range of Bushes. Banksias are iconic bushes and trees from Australia with spectacular flowers, suitable for coastal gardens. Their brush or cone-shaped inflorescences, available in a range of colours from bright yellow to deep red, exude exoticism and originality.
Among the most well-known species, the Banksia serrata stands out with its dentate leaves and large cylindrical floral spikes in cream to yellow. The Banksia integrifolia, or Coastal Bush, is a sturdy tree with pale yellow flowers that attract a multitude of pollinators. Its ability to adapt to different types of soil makes it a versatile species for various landscaping projects. The Banksia spinulosa, also known as Bristly Banksia, showcases brush-shaped flowers in gold to orange, often adorned with red tips. Its hybrid 'Giant Candles' features pine-like foliage and giant, orange floral spikes that can reach up to 40 cm long.
Banksias belong to the Proteaceae family, a botanical family mainly native to the southern hemisphere. The genus Banksia is named in honour of Sir Joseph Banks, an English botanist who explored Australia in the 18th century.
Outside the most favoured coastal areas, Banksias are cultivated in pots for winter storage. These tender bushes require sunlight for optimal flowering and prefer well-drained soil, preferably sandy or slightly acidic. Once established, they tolerate drought well, but regular watering is recommended during the early years.
