Origanum, also known as oregano or marjoram, is traditionally a culinary plant, commonly found in Mediterranean and mountainous regions. It is now widely cultivated for its beautiful flowers, often bi-coloured, throughout much of the summer and autumn. Sometimes running, oregano is easily grown in poor, well-drained soil, in full sun. Some taller varieties belong to the subshrub family.
