Asters are perennial plants that illuminate flower beds in autumn with their colourful flowering! There are countless varieties, which come in beautiful shades of blue, purple, white or pink, as well as in various sizes. The tallest ones, those exceeding one metre in height, are mainly autumn asters, such as Aster novi-belgii or Aster nova-angliae, but there are also Asters laevis or Asters umbellatus. With their airy and light appearance, the tall varieties bring a lot of volume when placed at the back of flower beds, and their flowering complements the inflorescences of grasses.
Asters appreciate well-drained soils and sunny exposures. They spread easily thanks to their rootstocks and can sometimes naturalise.
