The Houttuynia is a perennial, hardy plant used as a ground cover. Its deciduous foliage is decorative and, depending on the varieties, its foliage is either bronze or variegated with pink, green, and cream. Its highly aromatic foliage is used as a condiment. In early summer, the plant produces conical flowers with 4 large white bracts. Be aware that Houttuynia has a strong spreading habit and can become invasive. Plant your Houttuynia in partial shade in any rich, cool, heavy, even clayey soil.
